“It’s the game we always dreamed of crafting and we hope you dive into the adventure with as much passion as we poured into creating it.”

best whip in your opinion? ive unlocked all the whips and im not really sure which one i would consider the "best whip" funny enough tho id say the phantom whip (green whip) is one of my favourite whips; however when there isnt any phantoms i feel like sobbing

One of the game’s highlights is how it cleverly bakes a sense of community into its design through the implementation of phantoms – ghosts of other players who came before you and were bested by the temple. Beyond merely providing a glimpse of where others died, these phantoms are both an assistance and a hindrance, as they activate the many proximity-based traps in each temple.

You'll only ever get one attempt to clear a temple, if you fail then you'll be moved on to a new procedurally-generated tunnel. Each of these unique temples shows up for a variety of players who will all try to complete the map. With your trusty whip in hand you'll aim to reach further and further into the temple by picking up keys, and unlocking new boons from the Olmec deity that is trapped in the temple with you.

Phantom Abyss is a massive asynchronous multiplayer game that casts players into procedurally-generated temples and tasks them with retrieving the sacred relics hidden within deadly chambers. Intrepid adventurers will dodge scores of hidden traps, leap treacherous chasms, and flee relentless guardians through branching paths until one of the relics are claimed or the devices of death overwhelm them. Be warned, you only get one attempt at each temple and failure or settling for a lesser relic means you will never see that temple again... The cleverest players will use the phantom runs of failed attempts from other players to their advantage and avoid the missteps and mistakes that led to their doom. Asynchronous Multiplayer Explore the perilous halls and colossal Phantom Abyss rooms of each temple alongside the phantoms of fallen players that came before you.

Each temple run is a blind charge through a procedurally generated funhouse murder dungeon. These dungeons range in challenge from ‘leisurely, unhurried jog’ to ‘holy shit what the fuck’. Traps include everything from spike walls to bottomless pits, whirling blades and flying bombs, falling blocks and poison darts, and more. Depending on the level, there might even be a chance for an enemy to spawn, a protector of the temple’s treasure that harries the players at every turn.

in the current version the whip has a 3 level challenge to complete then you have the new whip. And the whip power isn't even exclusive to the whip, for some of them the power can be obtained at upgrade statues that are at the end (sometimes begging) of a level.

The game relies on a flow of fluid movement and speed to succeed. In addition to a whip with grappling functionality, Phantom Abyss

So, it’s a platforming rogue-lite. I’m good with that. Collecting these treasures will extend your own abilities, such as granting a double jump or lengthening the duration of your slide. You also have a whip, which can be used to swing yourself around.

Armed only with a whip and your guile, you get one attempt, and only one person in the world will succeed at clearing any given temple. If you successfully claim a relic, that exact temple configuration is locked forever, serving as a trophy of your victory. There’s no fear of running out of temples, however, as there are countless ruins with unique layouts, thanks to Phantom Abyss
